RE: Coronavirus/Covid-19 Update
Governor Edwards has issued a proclamation setting forth additional measures in the interest of public health and safety. The portions of the order (which establishes a declaration of emergency until April 13, 2020) that directly affect municipal governments are summarized below:
•All gatherings of 250 people or more between Friday, March 13, 2020 and Monday, April 13, 2020 must be postponed or cancelled
•All public schools shall close their facilities until April 13, 2020
•State agency administrative hearing deadlines and OMV deadlines are suspended to limit interaction with those agencies
•Political subdivisions are granted authority to suspend non-essential deadlines for 30 days
•Unemployment benefit requirements are temporarily suspended
•No charitable gaming activities until April 13, 2020
•Political subdivisions are directed to coordinate with state and parish authorities regarding their response
• We should all take the Coronavirus pandemic seriously
• The number of presumptive cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to rise across the nation and we should expect to see numbers rise in Louisiana.
• We know this pandemic has the full attention of Governor Edwards, who on yesterday declared a public health emergency for the State of Louisiana.
• The Town of Richwood will continue to work with public health officials and the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency preparedness to remain diligent in our efforts to inform the public and minimize the spread of this disease.
• We continue to encourage residents to make every effort to use proper hygiene practices and follow the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reduce the spread of the virus.
• Disinfect surfaces at your home, school, church, and place of business regularly
• Wash your hands frequently (for at least 20 seconds)
• Avoid contact with people who are sick
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth prior to washing your hands
• If you cough or sneeze, either use tissues or do so into your arm
• Stay home when sick
MEASURES BEING TAKEN AT THE TOWN OF RICHWOOD:
• I will work closely with the staff and monitor this situation and utilize additional safeguards as the need arises – including the possibility of postponing or cancelling certain events
• We want to look out for our personnel and the members of the public who frequent our buildings
Respectfully yours,
Gerald D. Brown
Mayor – Town of Richwood
